Kupenov & Burova was founded in 2004 by Dimitar Kupenov and Iliana Burova. For more than two decades we have advised and represented individuals and businesses from offices in Sofia, Athens and Thessaloniki. We specialise in civil, commercial, family and administrative law, and we offer complete solutions — from advice and the prevention of legal risk through to representation before the courts and the authorities.

Our mission
To give every client the same standard of care, whether the matter is a single contract or a cross-border dispute. Our work rests on three things the firm has held to since 2004: trust, competence, and an individual approach to each client.
Our approach
We prefer to prevent problems rather than litigate them. Most instructions begin with advice and risk prevention; when a matter does reach the courts or the authorities, it is handled by the same lawyers who advised on it.

Lawyers admitted in Sofia and in Athens, working the two jurisdictions as one practice. Company formation, trademarks, property, employment and administrative matters are handled in-house — and where a matter touches both countries, one team runs it rather than handing it between two firms.

Meet our founders
Dimitar Kupenov and Iliana Burova founded the practice in 2004. Both have been members of the Sofia Bar Association since that year.
Adv. Kupenov read law at Sofia University and holds a postgraduate degree in economic and legal sciences from Democritus University in Komotini, Greece. Before founding the firm he served as a scientific associate for economic and commercial affairs at the Embassy of Greece in Sofia, organising business meetings between Bulgarian and Greek companies and advising on cross-border legal and economic questions — the work the firm's Greek practice grew out of. Adv. Burova practises in commercial, employment, property and family law, and has been a registered representative before the Bulgarian Patent Office since 2010. She is joined in Athens by Adv. Vasiliki Ekaterini, a member of the Athens Bar since 2001.
